MYM participates in the development of the Afnor Spec 2305 “Prevention and protection of minors on social media”

For several months, the French fansite MYM has participated in a collective work initiated by AFNOR and the company Yubo in order to create a reference document allowing, through a consensus on good practices, to protect minors in their use of social networks. This AFNOR Spec is published today, November 23 on The AFNOR website.

The explosion of digital technologies and the exponential use of social networks are posing today major issues concerning security and the protection of privacy, especially for the youngest. Minors face numerous risks: confidentiality, sexual, violent or inappropriate content, harassment. To limit them, a collective and collaborative response was essential in order to ensure the trust of users.

Under the leadership of AFNOR and at the initiative of YUBO, MYM and more than twenty actors have pooled their experiences and expertise in order to write a guide to good practices bringing together solutions and procedures to protect minors online, in addition to current and future regulatory measures, aimed at social networks and content platforms.

Since the creation of the platform, the founders of MYM, Pierre Garonnaire and Gaspard Hafner, have taken the lead in security with the implementation of the most advanced age verification and account authentication devices on the market.

Today, MYM is delighted to contribute to the development of this document, alongside other actors such as META, Yubo, Docaposte, TikTok, Point of Contact, Point of Contact, Respect Zone, Respect Zone, Respect Zone, CNIL or ARCOM.

Launched on March 21, 2023, this AFNOR Spec guide, entitled “Prevention and protection of minors on social networks”, is a toolbox bringing together practical and operational recommendations aimed at shaping a safer online environment that is more adapted to the needs of young users.

There are 4 main themes covered:

  • The issue of account verification (including the age and identity of users)
  • Detecting and moderating inappropriate content
  • Transparency and awareness
  • The applicable legal framework

Paul Benelli, Legal Director of MYM

“At MYM, we are very proud to have participated in the development of this standard, which aims to provide practical advice for setting up moderation processes in order to protect minors from the excesses of social networks. These recommendations should enable any company to not only comply with applicable law (which has just been enriched by the European DSA and which should integrate various laws aimed at securing the digital space in the coming months) but also with the latest market standards.”
